Cardiac Catheterization

An examination of cardiac function and pathology.

Cardiac Cath must be scheduled with Cath lab by a cardiologist (Dr. Spencer or Dr. Vybiral).

Prep may vary with patient condition as will procedure.

Patient must be scheduled for a pre-admission time prior to having cardiac catheterization. At this time, the patient will have a chest x-ray and necessary lab work as well as be consented for exam.

Outpatients

Scheduling outpatients for heart catherization must be done through the Radiology Department only. Please call and ask to speak to a Technologist. There will be four time slots, 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM. If the patients are scheduled after 3:00 PM the Radiology Department staff will contact the Technologist who is on call to let them know status of the schedule.

The office scheduling these exams must get a PAT time for the patient. The patient education and consenting will be done at this time.

Inpatients

Scheduling inpatients must also be done through the Radiology Department. These patients will be given the next available time slot. The nursing unit will order the heart cath in the computer system and notify physician of stick time. Follow routine cath orders for patient prep.
