Fluoroscopy
Examination of large intestines with Barium (liquid substance that allows colon to be visualized by x-ray) filled enema and air.
Patient is to follow instructions on Evac Q Kit the day before exam and have a cleansing enema the morning of exam. * Evac Q Kit may be picked up in Radiology Department.
Exam time is approximately 45 minutes.
Evaluates molality of entire small bowel.
Patient is to have nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before exam.
Patient is required to drink 2 cups of Barium (a chalky liquid substance that coats esophagus, stomach, and small bowel and allow to be visualized on x-ray). X-ray images are then obtained. Additional x-rays will be taken every 15-30 minutes until entire small bowel is visualized. Patient may also be required to drink additional Barium.
Patient should plan on being in Radiology Department 2-4 hours.
Evaluates distal esophagus, stomach, and proximal duodenum.
Patient is to have nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before exam.
Examination requires patient to drink Barium (a liquid substance that allows stomach to be visualized on x-ray) while Radiologist obtains fluoroscopic images. Patient will have to lie on x-ray table and move in various positions.
Exam time is usually 15-20 minutes.
Evaluates mechanical function of swallowing.
Exam must be scheduled with Speech Pathologist.
Patient is required to swallow Barium coated food of various consistencies while x-ray images are obtained.
Exam time: approximately 30 minutes.
There is no patient prep for this exam.
Examination of esophagus and swallowing functions.
Patient is to register at outpatient registration and report to Radiology Department for scheduled appointment.
Patient will be required to remove clothing from the waist up and put on a hospital gown.
Examination requires patient to swallow Barium (liquid x-ray contrast) while the Radiologist obtains fluoroscopic images. This allows Radiologist to evaluate esophageal function.
Exam time is usually 15-20 minutes.
