January Employee of the Month

Employee: Mary Davenport

Department: CAP

I have had many patients and families compliment the care, services and bedside manner of Mary but a Family yesterday asked me to nominate her a dozen times. She was by a patient's bedside when she was dying and sang to her and held her hand. This provided a great deal of comfort to the family and they were moved and impressed by her genuine compassion.

February Employee of the Month

Employee: Kathy Wagoner

Department: EVS

One Sunday evening we had a patient come to Labor and Delivery by EMS with her 3 small children and no one to watch them. The patient was going to deliver, so the children were removed from the room. Since we were getting ready to have 2 deliveries back to back we didn't have the extra staff to watch the children. Needing to make sure that the children were taken care, we asked Kathy to take the children to the waiting room, get them some snacks and watch them. The New Beginnings Birthing Center staff was very thankful to have the extra help that Kathy provided that evening, and really appreciated the thoughtfulness and care she showed.

March Employee of the Month

Employee: Sheny Mejia

Department: Interpreter

Sheny is a wonderful asset to Wilkes Regional and to our community. She always has a smile on her face and is always ready and willing to help our patients and her fellow employees. She is appreciated for her hard work, long hours, and dedication to Wilkes Regional. She is invaluable in the Operating Room, in Ambulatory and PACU and in the Emergency Room. Even if she has to stay all night with a patient, she is atill willing to come to the Operating Room the same morning to translate. She demonstrated kindness and compassion to all of our patients and staff. Sheny is a bright shining start in our eyes.

April Employee of the Month

Employee: Shelley Osborne

Department: Diagnostic Imaging

In February, the Nuclear Medicine Department had an unannounced DFS survey. Shelly was a key person in answering the questions during the survey, as well as providing documentation throughout the survey. She remained calm throughout the survey, and made sure that patient care was not affected during the review. The DFS review went smoothly and without any deficiencies, which was much attributed to the hard work and dedication of Shelly. She does a great job for Wilkes Regional!

May Employee of the Month

Employee: Lisa Parks

Department: 3rd Medical/Peds

Our mother was a patient at WRMC for 5 weeks prior to her death. Lisa always had a smile for us and wanted to know if there was anything she could do for us. One particular morning, around 3am, mother's back hurt so bad from laying so long. Lisa turned her and then proceeded to massage her back with lotion to try to help the pain. Near the end, she was always there with fresh coffee or anything the family needed. We really appreciated her during this difficult time.

June Employee of the Month

Employee: Deanna Spears

Department: Nutritional Services

I would like to nominate her for a shining star. She is always very courteous, always has a smile on her face, very polite and one of the nicest people I have ever met. She goes out of her way in customer service and the hospital is lucky to have someone like her. I have seen her help elderly patients to their table when they couldn't carry their lunch. She helps the other staff whenever she can. She always seems to be having a good day. She is a good example.

July Employee of the Month

Employee: Pamela Lenderman

Department: Case Management

She always does a great job for Wilkes Regional, but this time she has gone beyond her duties. She went to Social Security Commission after work to apply for a patient on her own time. She has worked hard on this patient to get payment for WRMC, and excellent care at time of discharge for the patient. She deserves a Shining Star. I enjoy working with her. Patients always come first and she looks out for their best interest. She is a blessing.

August Employee of the Month

Employee: Brian Harbert, RN

Department: Intensive Care /Critical Care Unit

This letter is to commend the professional manner in which Brian Herbert handled himself during my family's emergency. I believe Brian's display of professionalism reflects the caregivers of Wilkes Regional Medical Center and feel fortunate to have these types of people serving the needs of our community. When my husband was admitted to the ICU, I felt cautious about handing my husbands life over to just anyone. When Brian entered the room he projected so much positive energy that all of my doubts about the quality of my husbands care vanished. One thing my husband remembers clearly is how his body immediately felt relaxed with the reassurance of Brian's voice. I may never see Brian again, but I will never forget the kindness in his voice and the goodness in his heart. He will remain a positive memory in my mind as long as I live.

September Employee of the Month

Employee: Darlene Caudill

Department: Diagnostic Imaging

I would like to recognize an employee who went above and beyond her duties and responsibilities to see that I was well taken care of. This employee gave me the feeling that I was the only patient in the hospital, on account of her care I knew I had chosen the correct place to carry out my testing. One year ago, this woman was present during a long-lasting MRI where I experienced feelings of panic as my sedative slowly wore off. This employee's ability to recognize my fears and attend to my needs as patient allowed me to finish my testing with the least amount of discomfort. This is the type of person that I would love to have working for me and representing me in the public's eye, every business needs someone like her.

October Employee of the Month

Employee: Leanne Sidden, RN

Department: New Beginnings Birthing Center

On Saturday, June 17th after she had worked her regular 7 am to 7 pm shift on the OB floor, she stayed awhile and helped on night shift for awhile, and then went home. That night ended up being an extremely busy night. After Leanne had left, the unit had a 29 week OB patient arrive, whose water had already broken and she needed one-on-one care immediately. Our on-call nurse was already with laboring patients, and after exhausting all other possibilities for callback of other staff, Leanne agreed to come in and go via by ambulance with this patient to Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. While she was gone to Winston, our staff ended up delivering a set of preterm twins. Leanne ended up working until 5 pm on Sunday, June 18th. until the mother of the new twins was also ready to be transferred. She will never know how much our OB staff appreciated the extra efforts that Leanne made that day. What a blessing it was to see her grace our doors!
