Employee: Richard Cook
Department: Patient Access
Richard always goes the extra mile for our patients. I observed Richard on his knees in our waiting room with an elderly patient. From just overhearing the conversation, I know this lady was very anxious and very apprehensive about what she was going to experience. Richard made every effort to help put her mind to ease. For Richard the patients always come first. He does not want them to wait, but he also makes sure that their needs are meet in the registration area. He is also always on top of things, no matter what the assignment or task. We appreciate Richard for what he continually does in the registration area, and the difference that he makes with the patient's experience at Wilkes Regional Medical Center.

An elderly lady used her lifeline because she had fallen. Lisa answered the Lifeline call, and quickly got help out to her home. While help was on the way, Lisa kept talking to the lady, reassuring her that everything was going to be alright. When EMS arrived, Lisa went promptly to the back to check on her. She also checked on her again when her shift ended.
Employee: Paul Barlow
Department: Maintenance
One of our dialysis patients needed to go to another out patient hospital facility to have a procedure. Mr. Barlow was kind enough to pick the patient up and drive her to the hospital. This is truly going above and beyond the call of duty.
Employee: Angie Wyatt
Department: Patient Access
I had to come to the emergency room early in the morning. We were assisted by an employee who went out of her way to help us in any way she could. She gave us her immediate assistance and also came back and checked on us later. As we were leaving she even took the time to wish us well. The few times I have had to use the emergency room, I have never been treated as nice as she treated me. The hospital is fortunate to have an employee as compassionate as her and she did a great job when we needed her.
Employee: Donna Lane
Department: Cardiopulmonary/ Neuro
Donna is quick to respond when a shift is in a bind due to walk-ins or an extra busy workload. She comes in on her scheduled days off to help out in a pinch. Donna works hard to see that documentation is done properly and that everyone has a fair workload when she is working. Her clinical judgment skills are excellent and she is constantly trying to learn more about new technologies and clinical advancements in her profession.
Employee: Wanda Hamby

Wanda always goes that extra mile to ensure that our schedule is covered. She is always willing to help even if it means changing her hours and days of work. Wanda is also great with our patients. She is very caring and she is a true example of "service excellence".
Employee: Wilma Severt
Department: Housekeeping
The ED was over flowing with patients. I was told that house keeping would not be available after 11pm. At 2 am in the morning, I realized that Wilma Severt was still helping in the ED. I asked what time she was supposed to leave, she said 11pm, I hugged her and thanked her.
Employee: Sherry Parsons, RN
Department: Case Management
During a critical situation in CCU, Sherry stayed and worked as a staff nurse, she assisted in getting IV fluids, taking physician orders, calling the lab for blood products as well as helping the physician discuss the medical status of the patient with family members. We could not have accomplished the things we did that day without Sherry's help. She is an important part of our excellent team.
Employee: Michelle Fisher-Hanson
Department: Hospice
I was visiting a dying patient when Michelle arrived for a Hospice visit. Michelle was so caring, compassionate and supportive to the family members watching their loved one die. She tenderly educated the family what to expect in the following hours, in a sensitive yet professional way assisting them in coping with their grief and anxiety. It was a moment witnessed that will impact me forever.
Employee: Libby Eller - CNA
Department: New Beginnings Birthing Center/Labor & Delivery Tech
Libby came to the OB unit to run an errand on her day off. She was dressed in street cloths, and was with her mother and her granddaughter. A C-Section was being scheduled due to complications with the pregnancy and a tech wasn't available. Libby, with no hesitation agreed to scrub in and assist with the C-Sec case. This isn't the first time Libby has come in and helped when she wasn't on call or working. We appreciate the commitment to Wilkes Regional that Libby demonstrates on a regular basis.
