Pediatric Preps

(Must be scheduled)

Examinations for children need to be addressed per child. Please call about specific preps.

Some examinations for children may require sedation (i.e. CT, CVUG). We need a complete allergy list for the child. The following eating and drinking guidelines must be strictly followed.

Infants 0 – 5 months – no solids for four hours prior to the examination.

Infants 6 – 36 months – no solids for six hours prior to the examination.

Children older than 36 months – no solids for eight hours prior to the examination.

MILK IS CONSIDERED A SOLID!!!

If your child is sedated for an exam, they will be monitored by a Registered Nurse. The child will not be released until he/she is awake enough to open their eyes and drink liquid. The patient may be groggy for some time and should be watched closely at home. Plan on being in Diagnostic Imaging Department for three hours.

Children requiring sedation must arrive at the registration desk of the hospital one hour prior to appointment in the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
